StableNextSol was a European COST Action created to establish a multidisciplinary network of academic and industrial researchers dedicated to understanding and mitigating degradation mechanisms in emerging photovoltaic technologies.
The project focused on the stability and lifetime of Organic Photovoltaics (OPV) and Perovskite Solar Cells (PSC), two highly promising technologies whose commercialization is largely limited by long-term reliability challenges.
By combining complementary expertise in materials science, characterization, modelling, device fabrication, and ageing studies, the network aimed to generate fundamental knowledge about device degradation and translate it into innovative strategies for extending photovoltaic lifetimes beyond 20 years.
StableNextSol brought together more than 400 researchers from over 130 institutions, including universities, research centres and industrial partners across Europe and beyond. The Action promoted knowledge exchange through working groups, scientific missions, training schools, workshops and international conferences.

The knowledge generated within StableNextSol contributed to the development of more reliable organic and perovskite photovoltaic technologies and helped strengthen the European research and industrial ecosystem working on sustainable solar energy solutions.
